  6. Introduction
  7. ------------

  9. The Enforcer was written to encourage users to post public messages rather than
  10. playing on-line  games without ever visiting the bulletin boards.  Removing the
  11. games from the bulletin board system was not the answer.  The Enforcer was!
  12.  
  13. Now registered users on my bulletin board can enter  the  games  without  being
  14. questioned, but un-registered users must post one public message for every five
  15. calls that they make to the system or else they will be denied entrance to  the
  16. on-line games.

  18. The Enforcer is run as an external application that launches back to Red  Ryder
  19. Host,  or  goes  onward  to  the  another  application  if  the  user meets the
  20. requirements that you have set.  The Enforcer works  extremely  fast  so  there
  21. should be  no  noticeable  delay  upon  switching applications.  If the user is
  22. denied access an optional string can be written to the CALLERLOG.

  24. I have been using The Enforcer for  several weeks on my  bulletin board  system
  25. with absolutely no problems.  However, if you think that you  have found a  bug,
  26. or if you would like to make a suggestion, please feel free to do so!

  32. By using The Enforcer you agree to several things…
  33.  
  34. 1) You must leave me a message telling me that you found The  Enforcer  useful.
  35. You can leave this message  either on  GEnie or on my BBS, The Fifth Dimension.
  36. Please include your suggestions, comments, and, eeek!, bug reports.

  38. 2) If you distribute this program in any way, you must not alter  the  original
  39. StuffIt Archive contents in any way, shape, or form.

  41. 3) The Enforcer is free! However, if you want to send me some big bucks for it,
  42. or for anything else that I have released  on  GEnie,  such  as  my  Validation
  43. Survey, Quiz Surveys, FSP Control File, RLE Package, Fedora Quotes, or RRH Stop
  44. then feel free to do so!

  47. Setting It Up!
  48. --------------

  50. [1] Place The Enforcer in the same folder as Red Ryder Host.  It must be in the
  51. same folder as Red Ryder Host if you are using Host 2.0 or above.

  53. [2] Go  into  ResEdit and open up The Enforcer application.  When the resources
  54. are shown open the STR resource.  There are five STR  resources in The Enforcer
  55. application that you will need to modify.

  57. AmntCall,500               { Number of calls that can be made for  every  one   
  58. 5                            public message posted.                           }
  59.  
  60. FreeAccs,501               { Users with equal or greater access gain entrance
  61. 25                           to the  application without having to  be within
  62.                              the assigned ratio.                              }

  64. HostPath,502               { Pathname to the Red Ryder Host application. Must
  65. DD80:RRH:Host:               end with a colon!                                }
  66.  
  67. HostName,503               { The name of your Red Ryder Host application.     }
  68. RR Host

  70. LaunchTo,504               { Pathname and filename of the  application to  go
  71. DD80:RRH:Host:Dungeons       to if the user is  within the ratio, or  if they
  72.                              have free  access to the application.  There  is
  73.                              no colon at the end of this pathname!            }

  75. ReportIt,505               { If this string is a  lowercase or uppercase  “y”
  76. Y                            then  an  entry will be made to your   CALLERLOG
  77.                              disk file if a user was denied entrance.         }

  79. [3] Allow The  Enforcer to be called by a  command fifty or  fifty-one from Red
  80. Ryder Host.  Then test it out to make sure the pathnames are correct.

  87. appreciate  getting  notes  from time to time mentioning that you have found my
  88. work useful.  I am not demanding money from you, just a message, so,  for  this
  89. reason, The Enforcer is officially MessageWare!

  91. If I get feedback on my work, I will continue to release my work on GEnie, but,
  92. if I  do  not,  I will be forced to remove my work from GEnie once again.  Your
  93. feedback will ensure bigger and better things to come from The Fifth Dimension.

  95. have sent  me  a  message  again.    You  guys  and gals give me what I need to
  96. continue coming out with  useful  utilities  for  the  Red  Ryder  Host  System
